What the Provenance-2 flagship core does, which signals remain exploratory, how the evidence is scoped, and what happens when you apply.
What does Provotics do?
Provotics' flagship is Provenance-2, which estimates anatomical site of origin across 25 sites from one bulk tumor RNA-seq profile. Its site call carries calibrated uncertainty, alternatives, and abstention. Separately labeled research-preview signals may add subtype, immune, or target context, but they do not have equivalent validation and do not replace assays.
Is Provotics a medical device?
No. Provotics is a research and educational project. It is not a medical device and is not intended for clinical diagnosis or treatment decisions. Nothing it returns should be used to direct patient care.
How accurate is it?
On the 2,700-sample internal held-out test, the site-of-origin core reaches macro-F1 0.940 and balanced accuracy 0.942 across 25 sites. Its conformal coverage target is in-distribution only. On off-pipeline single tumors, the served decision policy abstains on roughly three in five and is correct on about 98% of the profiles where it commits to one site. These figures do not validate the exploratory heads and do not carry clinical authority.
What input does it need?
One bulk tumor RNA-seq expression profile with gene-level counts or TPM. The harmonizer maps a sufficiently complete profile to the fixed 3,882-gene panel. The strongest uncertainty evidence is tied to GDC-shaped STAR-Counts FPKM-UQ; other pipelines can be accepted but are less reliable and may trigger abstention.
Does it need patient identifiers or PHI?
No. Provenance-2 works from expression values only. It does not require names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, or any protected health information to produce a report.
What does it mean when the model abstains?
Abstaining means the model has decided it cannot place a profile confidently, so it declines to commit to a site rather than returning a low-quality guess. We run conformal prediction at a 90% coverage target on in-distribution inputs, plus out-of-distribution gating, so unfamiliar or low-quality inputs are flagged or held back. That 90% coverage is an in-distribution property and does not hold under platform shift. Read an abstention literally: the model is telling you it does not know.
Can it diagnose or detect cancer?
No. Provenance-2 does not screen for, detect, or diagnose cancer, and it does not establish that a sample is a tumor. It estimates a likely site of origin for a profile that is already understood to be a tumor sample. "Site of origin" carries no diagnostic authority and is for research and educational use.
What can't it do yet?
It has a cross-platform generalization gap. On single tumors produced by different pipelines, it abstains on roughly three in five and is correct on about 98% where it commits to one site. It also lacks prospective clinical validation and a completed demographic subgroup-equity audit. Exploratory subtype, immune, and target signals have separate, generally narrower evidence.
How is my data handled?
We do not require or want PHI; expression values are enough. Data use is governed by our access agreement, and we keep handling minimal and purpose-limited. See the Privacy page for the full detail.
Who can access it?
Provotics is in an invite-only research phase. Access is granted by application so intended research use, input fit, organizational authority, agreement, and billing can be resolved. The application creates a pending account, not immediate model access. Apply for access to be considered.
How much does it cost?
Access is apply-first, and pricing depends on who you are:
Individual: $49/month.
University: from $25,000/year, including sponsored student and faculty seats.
Students: no free individual plan; access requires a paid university-sponsored seat.
Only when the Pricing page reports that secure checkout is enabled. That page loads live billing status from the server. If checkout is off, access is arranged after approval through direct invoicing. University and enterprise plans always remain contract/invoice based.
Can a team manage seats and shared projects?
Organization pricing, quota enforcement, and domain licensing are defined, but seats are currently provisioned manually. A customer-facing workspace with member administration, shared projects, and cloud synchronization is not yet available.
Are the Science Workbench and Lab Assistant available?
Science Workbench for Claude is a local reference implementation, not a hosted production MCP endpoint or paid service. Provotics is not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic. Lab Assistant has an unsigned macOS engineering download; it is not Apple-notarized. The Products page is the source of truth for current maturity.
Is the guided demo a real public-sample model run?
No. The guided demo uses fictional, canned profiles and results to teach the interface. Cohort-level validation is downloadable, but no accession-linked bundle pairing a full public input with current served-core output and reproduction steps has been published yet. The Evidence page tracks that gap.
Has every legal document been reviewed by counsel?
No. The Privacy Notice records a completed counsel review. The Access Agreement is still plainly marked for attorney review, and enterprise terms are reviewed for each signed contract.
